What is Evolution?

I define evolution as all of the microscopic changes that have occurred in order to create the changes that we see on a macroscopic scale. In other words, everything that has happened on a genetic level has led to what we see on earth today. It took billions of years for DNA to mutate and be altered in a way that has led to humans, food, and everything else living on earth today. There are also other factors that play into evolution, such as natural selection. Those with the most advantageous traits are more likely to survive and reproduce, and this has affected the populations that exist today. These traits help an organism survive could be an insect's camouflage, a bird's beak shape, the height of a giraffe, etc. I have always been told that evolution is a theory since it is an explanation of all of the evidence that we have gathered. I think it is not considered a fact since it is not something that you can prove in an experiment and it cannot be measured. However, I believe...

My name is Ashley Panagakis and I am from Shawnee, Kansas. I am passionate about animals, biology, and I also really love TikTok. I have three dogs: two Shih Tzu's and one Lhasa Apso. I like to take them to the dog park as much as possible. I am majoring in biology and plan on attending either PA or med school after graduating. One thing that fascinates me about evolution is how it works and what has made us human. I also think the diversity of organisms that exist is very interesting. A few ways evolution relates to daily life is through medicine and how that has changed, as well as how our bodies react differently to things like viruses, bacteria, and medicine. I am excited to learn more about evolution and be able discuss it with others. Here are some pictures of my dogs :)
